Instagram Plus: What Does $3.99 a Month Get You?

Instagram Plus is Meta's optional paid upgrade for Instagram. Meta lists it at $3.99 a month, with Story controls and profile extras, while the core app stays free. It may be useful if you already post Stories and want a specific feature, such as a longer posting window or separate audience lists. Before subscribing, check the price and included benefits shown for your account. A subscription is not a promise of more Reel views.

How much does Instagram Plus cost?

Meta lists Instagram Plus at $3.99 per month in US dollars. Pricing, benefits, and availability can vary by region, app, and account.

If Stories are part of your week, picture the next one you need to post. Would a longer window or a separate audience list save you work? That is a firmer reason to pay than a vague hope of buying reach.

Meta began rolling out Plus globally in June 2026 and included it in its September Meta One announcement. A global rollout does not mean every account sees the same offer.

Which Instagram Plus features change your Stories?

The Story features are the place to start if Stories are already part of your routine. Here is what Meta announced, with a practical way to think about each one.

Announced Story features and possible uses
FeatureWhat it offersWhen it may help
Story ExtendKeep a Story available for up to 48 hours.Useful when the information still matters the next day.
Multiple Story audiencesCreate multiple audience lists.Useful when you regularly share different updates with different people.
Story SpotlightGive a Story priority among friends.Consider it for an important update, without assuming a guaranteed audience.
Rewatch information and viewer searchSee repeat-viewing information and search the viewer list.Use the labels in your app to understand what each number or list actually shows.
Story Preview and Super HeartsPreview Stories discreetly and send animated reactions. These may change how you use Instagram personally; they are not a content strategy.

The launch also included custom app icons, bio fonts, up to six pinned profile posts, and posting directly to a profile or Highlights without appearing in friends' feeds. In September, Meta confirmed newer DM and Story fonts, selected-viewer notifications, and DM previews. Check the current offer rather than treating any fixed feature count as permanent.

Spotlight concerns Stories among friends. It does not establish that buying Plus will improve your Reels recommendations. If that is your actual goal, start with how Instagram ranking works and identify the part of your content you can test.

Is Instagram Plus worth it for your next Story?

Start with the next post on your calendar. If you can name the feature you would use and explain why the free workflow is awkward, you have a reason to consider Plus. If the answer is simply more views, keep the money until you have a clearer plan.

Use this worksheet before paying. The free alternatives are editorial suggestions, not promises that they reproduce the paid feature.

Constructed example. A fitness creator is sharing a Saturday workshop reminder on Friday. The details will still be useful on Saturday, so the longer Story window could save a repeat post. But if the location or remaining places are likely to change, a fresh update may be more useful anyway. The deciding question is how the information will age, not whether a longer Story is automatically better.

What Plus tells you about viewers

Rewatch information and viewer search answer different questions. One concerns repeat viewing; the other helps you find a person in the viewer list. Combining the two is not proof that a particular person replayed your Story, let alone that they intend to buy something.

If a pricing explainer gets repeat attention, it may deserve a clearer follow-up. It could also be confusing, or someone may simply want to read it again. Look at the content alongside replies and the other account data available to you before deciding what to change.

Story Preview is another separate feature. Meta describes a discreet way to preview Stories, but its launch announcement does not explain how those previews affect every view or reach metric. Keep that distinction in mind when reading your own numbers. A name missing from a list is not enough to diagnose lost reach.

Instagram Plus, Meta One, and creator subscriptions

Instagram Plus is a single-product plan within Meta One. Meta also offers individual bundles with more AI usage, and separate creator and business plans. Compare the exact plan name before you compare the price.

Meta lists its Core individual bundle at $7.99 a month and creator and business bundles from $14.99 a month. Those plans serve different needs. A feature promoted for a professional bundle should not be assumed to come with the $3.99 Instagram Plus plan.

There is also Instagram's creator subscription product, which lets fans pay for a creator's exclusive content and community. That is a different purchase from paying Meta for extra app features. Meta's original creator-subscription announcement below explains that distinction; it is background, not a current price list.

Check your account before subscribing

The offer on your publishing account is the one that matters. Read its price alongside the included benefits: if the feature you want is missing, a similarly named plan elsewhere will not help.

Before confirming payment, save the plan details and check the renewal date, billing provider, and cancellation terms. Someone else's screenshot may show a different offer from the one on your phone, so make the decision from the terms you can actually accept.

Before renewal, think back to what you actually used. Did the feature make the intended task easier? You might keep Plus because separate audience lists simplified your week, even if your views barely changed. You might cancel because you never needed the longer Story window. Either decision is more useful than judging the subscription by one unusually good post.
