What Is Meta Muse, and What Can It Read From Instagram?

Meta Muse is a personal AI agent that can connect to Instagram and other apps to complete tasks. Meta says Muse can connect Instagram professional-account analytics, and its launch example turns a saved recipe Reel into a grocery list. Meta still doesn't list the exact analytics fields or every Instagram permission, so don't assume it can read DMs or drafts, or publish for you. Check the live permissions, choose the narrowest access available, and keep approval on for anything that can change or publish content.

01 · PRODUCT DEFINITION

What Meta Muse is

Muse is Meta's personal AI agent. You give it a goal, and it can use a dedicated cloud computer, a browser, and apps you choose to connect to work on the task. Meta says Muse can keep working in the background, return with results, and show an activity trail of what it did.

That makes Muse different from a chatbot that only answers inside one conversation. The important Instagram detail is not that Muse has unlimited access to an account. It is that Instagram is one of the apps Meta names as a connection, and the connection supplies whatever data and actions its live permission screen allows.

02 · CONFIRMED SCOPE

What connecting Instagram is confirmed to do

Meta's public product page says Muse connects to apps you use every day, including Instagram, and that you decide what it can see and do. The launch announcement gives one concrete Instagram example: asking Muse to turn a recipe Reel you saved on Instagram into a grocery list.

That example tells us something useful, but limited. Muse can use at least some information from a connected Instagram account to complete a task outside Instagram. Meta later confirmed that Muse can connect Instagram professional-account analytics. It does not mean Muse can read your whole account, understand every Reel, or take every action on your behalf.

03 · WHAT META DOESN'T SAY

What Meta doesn't say about Instagram access

Meta confirms support for Instagram business accounts and says Muse can connect professional-account analytics. It does not publish the exact analytics fields or full Insights scope, or say whether Muse can read DMs, drafts, private or archived posts, or publish for you. Other account types and permissions may differ.

Those details may change as Meta rolls Muse out and updates the connector. For now, check the consent screen each time you connect, and keep a note of what you approved. If the permission you need is not listed, assume Muse does not have it.

Meta says Muse stores credentials separately, where the agent cannot read them directly. A system called Sentinel controls app connections, network access, and approvals for sensitive actions. Even so, Meta warns that Muse can make mistakes and remains vulnerable to prompt injection.

04 · NAME CHECK

Muse, Meta AI, Muse Spark, and Muse Image are not the same thing

Meta uses Muse in the names of several products and models, which can make search results confusing. Before relying on a page, check that it is about the Muse personal agent, not Meta AI, Muse Spark, or Muse Image.

05 · BEFORE YOU CONNECT

Four checks before you connect Instagram

Here are four practical checks based on Meta's general guidance for Muse permissions and security. They are not a copy of Instagram's connection screen, and your account may show different options.

Inspect, limit, approve, and review a Muse connection
StageLook forAction
1. InspectThe exact Instagram data and actions named on the live connection screen.Do not continue if the wording is broader than the task you want Muse to perform.
2. LimitRead-only, one-time, task-scoped, session-scoped, or time-limited access where offered.Choose the narrowest useful option. Only rely on a time limit if the Instagram connection actually offers one.
3. ApproveA separate confirmation before sending, sharing, purchasing, publishing, or changing data.Keep approval on for actions that send, share, publish, buy, or change something. Check both the action and its destination before approving it.
4. ReviewMuse's activity trail, connected-app settings, training preference, and disconnect control.Review the completed task, revoke access you no longer need, and keep your own copy of important source material.

Check these three privacy settings too

  • Training preference. Meta says it may use sanitized records of agent activity for training by default, with an opt-out in settings. Check the current setting rather than assuming your broader Meta privacy choices cover Muse.
  • Advertising. Meta says it does not share Muse conversations or virtual-machine data with its ad systems. However, browsing activity may still affect the ads you see.
  • Meta's access. Meta says it may access data from Muse's virtual computer when needed to run, secure, or support the service. Read the current privacy notice before placing confidential client or unreleased campaign material in a task.

06 · TRY IT WITHOUT OVERCOMMITTING

Availability, pricing, and a low-risk first test

Meta launched Muse first in the United States on iOS, Android, and the web. The product page lists a free tier with usage limits and paid options. Availability, limits, and pricing can change, so check the current signup screen instead of relying on an old launch screenshot.

For a first Instagram test, choose a saved public recipe Reel or another low-stakes item you can verify yourself. Ask Muse for a small, easy-to-check result such as a checklist. Confirm that it used the intended Reel, compare the result with the source, and inspect the activity trail. Do not begin with DMs, client work, private drafts, account changes, or a publishing action.

SOURCES · WHAT META CONFIRMS

What these sources confirm

Kabo checked the sources below on . Together, they explain what Muse is, name Instagram as a connected app, confirm its connection to professional-account analytics, show the saved-Reel example, and describe Muse's security, permissions, launch availability, and similarly named Meta products. The four-step checklist and first-test recommendation are Kabo's practical takeaways, not instructions or guarantees from Meta.

Meta does not list every analytics field or Instagram permission. Before relying on Muse for a specific data source or action, check both the live consent screen and Meta's latest documentation.
