Kabo reads about 30 public posts for the hashtag: on TikTok, the top posts TikTok shows for it; on Instagram, the most recent posts.
Check median views, likes and comments, posting freshness, related hashtags and the top posts in the sample.
A hashtag's total post count tells you it is popular, not whether posts using it get seen. Kabo samples about 30 public posts that use the hashtag — the top posts on TikTok, the most recent posts on Instagram — and shows what those posts actually get.
Relevance beats volume.
Platforms use hashtags to understand what a video is about. A specific tag that matches your content is worth more than a huge generic one.
Start with the tag that names your topic, check it here, then pick two or three related hashtags from the list that describe your video precisely. If a tag's posts are mostly old, creators have moved on; if the median is tiny but the top posts are strong, the tag works for content that stands out.
TikTok shows play counts for every video, so views are usually available. Instagram does not show views for every post type; when they are missing, compare likes and comments instead. Kabo never fills a missing number with zero.
Use a mix of the core hashtag and two or three related ones that describe the video.
One viral post can make an average look huge. The median shows the middle of the sample, which is a fairer reference point than an average.
About 30 public posts per check. On TikTok these are the top posts TikTok shows for the hashtag, so the medians describe what its best posts reach. On Instagram they are the most recent posts, so the medians describe a typical fresh post. It is not a full count of every post using the tag.
Instagram does not show view counts for every post type. When views are unavailable, Kabo shows likes and comments instead of guessing.
They are hashtags that appear together with yours in the sampled posts, ranked by how many of those posts use them. They show how creators in this niche tag their content.
Not by itself. Hashtags help platforms understand your topic; the video itself decides how far it goes. Use this to pick relevant tags, not to chase volume.
